Creating the “Unschedule” – The First Time and thereafter
  1. Purposes:
  2. Work towards a well-balanced lifestyle that supports work, recreation (including a rewarding social life), and health
  3. Ensuring there is time for guilt-free play
  4. Defeat procrastination
  5. Develop metacognitive knowledge of budgeting time: what is required, what is too little, and what is too much to put into a large project.

  1. Steps
  2. Fill in all your regularly scheduled activities for the current week (when you do your next one, many will be repeated – create a digital copy and then copy and paste and then make any necessary changes.
  3. On the back of your sheet, record things you like to do that give you pleasure; these are your recreation activities – things that re-create you and give high value to your life.
  4. Schedule in at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted recreation time per day. Highlight these times in pink
  5. Schedule in when you do your homework for subjects and projects other than Eminent Person.
  6. Figure out how much time you need to budget for Eminent Person this week. To do this
    1. List the activities you need to complete in detail
i. E.g. write out interview questions
ii. E.g. Budget the amount of time you expect to spend on the phone
iii. E.g. Schedule a back-up time in case you are unable to complete the call the first time

  1. Schedule these activities in pencil
  2. As you complete a 15 or 30 minute segment of uninterrupted Eminent Person Project time, highlight that time in yellow
  3. Total the project time each day
  4. Next week: do the same for Monday morning
